Cliffs of Moher & the Burren
The Cliffs of Moher - once again, words get in the way. Declan brought along some Bailey's for a group toast, but we were so distracted by the sights around us, we didn't capture that moment. Slainte! The Burren resembles a moonscape, although there was plant life all around.
Galway
Filled with people, Galway was at the same time vibrant and calm. Declan explained the fine points of the Claddagh ring on our way to a group dinner at McSwiggan's. Murals adorn many walls, even electrical boxes. The Spanish Arch draws many people to the waterfront as the sun sets at the harbor.
Inishmore - The Aran Islands
Another long anticipated day, Jane was looking forward to shopping for a fisherman's sweater, for which the Aran Islands are famous. The sweaters were beautiful and warm. Warm. That's when common sense prevailed - there was little point in buying a sweater that would live in a drawer because it's too hot in Florida to wear it. While she was disappointed at that realization, our fellow travelers made up for it, bringing back many fine sweaters to enjoy in their much colder home climates. Our minibus tour brought us full-circle around the island, nose-to-nose with a donkey, and we dipped a toe in the Atlantic.
WOW Moment: Dun Aengus
This wasn't just a Wow moment, it was another WOW moment. Dun Aengus is an ancient fort clinging to the cliffs high above the ocean. It was an arduous climb, but well worth the effort. Jane considers reaching the top to be one of her major personal achievements. While Jane was climbing, Ed was already at the top, capturing the scene.
