Walking St. Andrews
St. Andrews is a college town filled with ancient history. We carefully wandered around the churchyard of St. Andrews Cathedral, where many of the gravesites have become unstable. The ruins themselves were fenced off for fear of falling stones. St Andrews Castle sits along the edge of the cliffs and was beautiful in the afternoon sun. We were amazed at how wide the beach is, once we got past the cliffs.
Wow Moment: The Old Course at St. Andrews
Not only does everyone want to play here, everyone wants a photo standing on the famous Swilken Burn. We managed to do that in a hilarious way. The bridge sits near a side street that we easily walked to, and there's no fence to stop us from walking onto the course. There was a gaggle of likeminded golf groupies hovering until the coast was clear of golfers. Then we scrambled out, took turns photographing each other and scrambled back again. Of course, the golfers and their caddies all stopped atop the bridge to do the same thing!
