Walking Kinsale
Guide Barry explained that Cromwell's soldiers sharpened their swords on the doorframe of St. Multose Church, and shared the story of the Lusitania victims buried here. Kinsale is the birthplace of the Pirate Anne Bonny - well-behaved women seldom make history! And it's raining on the Regatta.
Charles Fort
Sitting at the mouth of the harbor, the star-shaped Charles Fort protected the town against the Spanish Armada. Today, it's ruins remain as a testament to Kinsale's historic seafaring importance.
Wow Moment: A Night on the Town
The Regatta is in town! We joined the concert in the square as the band played folk songs, John Denver, Billy Joel and Bruce Springsteen. Everyone sang along! We even joined the chorus of Grace, which Declan taught us on the bus from Kilmainham Gaol, to the surprised delight of the local people around us. This perfect evening was capped off by fireworks over the harbor. |
Food, Glorious Food!
